Every last Cedar County resident has vital records kept on them. The Cedar County authorities are even tasked with collecting some of these documents and sending them to the state. These vital records can include birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, marriage licenses, death certificates, divorce certificates, and much more.

The county clerk currently collects all marriage records. Copies of each vital record are then sent to the Office of Vital Statistics. The Cedar County office, as well as other county offices around Missouri, has also been in charge of birth and death records in the past. All Cedar County records are sent to the central registry, along with records from all 114 other counties. Not only does this keep everything safe and in one place, but they can also then all be used to compare and contrast in statistical analysis.

The Missouri Public Records Law in 1961 allowed all people of Cedar County to access and copy public records.
