The Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the FBI compiles and publishes annual crime reports of index offenses collated by various county law enforcement agencies. According to the 2017 reports, Boone County recorded a total of 799 incidents of violent and property crimes with operty crime accounting for 87% of the total offenses committed. Larceny-theft accounted for 72% of the offenses making it the most recurring crime in the county. Other crimes in the subset, including burglary, motor vehicle theft, and arson recorded 114, 77 and 8 incidents respectively. On the other hand, all the incidents of violent crime recorded totaled 101, with aggravated assault being the most recurring with 81 incidents in total. The Boone County Sheriff's Department performs a variety of law enforcement related functions including collating records of criminal activity within county limits. However, requests for criminal records and background checks are mostly processed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which maintains the central repository of criminal history information of the state.
How To Get Criminal Records
The Criminal Justice Information Service Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol maintains and disseminates criminal history information including arrest, conviction, detention and criminal charge reports. The office processes both criminal and non-justice criminal record requests in two forms: a name-based or personal identifier search or a fingerprint search.
Name-based searches typically provide the requestor with arrest and conviction information as well as prosecutor filed charges, dispositions and suspended impositions. Requests may be made online via the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site or by completing and sending a Criminal Record Check Form via mail to the office at:

Requestors will be required to pay a fee of $14 per request for both online and offline queries. Fingerprint-based searches will require the subject to complete a fingerprint card via any of the state-approved fingerprinting service vendors. The search provides the requestor with all criminal history information, including arrests, charges and SIS records. The requesting party will be charged $20 for each search requested as well as any applicable fingerprinting fees and return postage fees that apply. Applications should be accompanied by a completed Criminal Record Check Form, and may also be sent via mail or online on the platform of the fingerprint vendor. How To Get Police Reports
Requests for police reports in the custody of the Boone County Sheriff's Department can be made using the Records Request Form available on the Sheriff's Website. The Office of the Boone County Circuit Clerk is tasked with maintaining records of court cases, including proceedings, rules, orders, and judgments of the Boone County Circuit Court. Where and How to Get Bankruptcy Records
Boone County bankruptcy records are filed with/maintained by the Western District of Missouri US State Court. Interested persons may obtain record copies by querying the office via mail or in person. To make in-person requests, the requesting party may visit the office during working hours and use the public-access terminals to search for the record of interest, or request help from any of the court clerks if required (search fees may apply). Vital Records
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is the primary custodian of birth, death, marriage and divorce records for the state. Boone County's vital records may be accessed by querying the state department. They can also be obtained locally from the County Health Department, Recorder of Deeds or the Office of the Circuit Clerk, depending on the record required. Eligibility requirements also vary with the issuing office and the record of interest.
Where and how to get Divorce Records
The Office of the Boone County Circuit Clerk maintains records of divorces granted by the Boone County court. Divorce certificates are public record and can be obtained by interested members of the public by querying the family division of the Office in person or via mail. The requesting party will be required to provide information regarding the divorce including the divorcee names, and the date/place of the divorce.

Where and how to get Birth and Death Records
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services maintains and issues birth and death records for individuals residing within its jurisdiction. The birth records available in this office date back to 1920, while death records are of deaths which occurred no later than 1980. In compliance with state law, copies of birth and death records may only be requested by the registrant, an immediate family member of the registrant/decedent and their legal representatives or legally authorized persons.
To request a record, interested and eligible persons may query the office in person during working hours. The requestor will be required to present a government-issued ID as well as payment of $15 for birth records or $13 for death records. Mail requests may also be made to the office by completing and submitting a Missouri Birth and Death Certificate Application.
