Crime Numbers
The Missouri State Highway Patrol collates and publishes yearly crime data recorded by all law enforcement agencies in the state. In 2018, Cass county recorded 208 violent crimes and 2,317 property crimes. A breakdown of these figures reveals that there were 3 murders, 153 aggravated assaults, 28 rapes, and 24 robberies. On the other hand, reported incidences of property crimes include 1,759 larceny thefts, 365 burglaries, 190 motor vehicle offences, and 3 arsons.
Compared to the 2014 crime statistics for Cass County, aggravated assault (38.8%), robbery (14.3%), larceny (15.5%), and motor vehicle theft (19.5%) rates went up in 2018. The five-year crime trend for Cass County also shows declining rape (17.7%), burglary (6.2%), and arson (62.5%) rates while murder rates remained the same.
Criminal Records
The Criminal Justice Information Services of the Missouri State Highway Patrol provides public access to criminal history records. It offers name-based and fingerprint-based criminal history checks. Any member of the general public can submit a name-based criminal history check by mail, online, or by visiting the public access window located at the State Highway Patrol Office. To submit a request by mail, start by printing the Request for Criminal Records Check Form SHP-158. Complete this form and then send it along with the required fees to the criminal division’s mail address. Below are the physical and mail addresses of the state highway patrol office:

The office charges $14 for each name-based/personal identifier search and $2 to notarize the record obtained from the search. Requesters can pay these fees by cash (for walk-in visitors only), check, or money order made out to the State of Missouri, Criminal Record System Fund.
The State of Missouri also provides a central repository of statewide criminal history files known as Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS). Subscribe to this portal to be able to log in and submit name-based requests for open criminal history information. The results of online searches cannot be notarized. Record fees are the same for in-person, mail-in, and online name search requests. However, those requesting Missouri criminal history records online must pay additional transaction fees using their credit/debit cards.
For employment and licensing purposes, eligible persons can apply for their complete fingerprint-based criminal history checks and FBI criminal record checks. To request these records, visit any law enforcement agency in Cass County to complete and obtain a fingerprint card. Take the inked fingerprint card in person to the State Patrol’s public access window anytime from Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Alternatively, send the fingerprint card along with Form SHP-158 to the Missouri State Patrol’s mail address listed above. Each fingerprint-based state check costs $20, while an FBI check costs $13.25. Pay with a check or money order made payable to the State of Missouri, Criminal Record System Fund.
The CJIS offers electronic fingerprinting services through a third-party vendor for a fee. Schedule an appointment with their closest office location via the MACHS Fingerprinting Portal. The office electronically transmits the fingerprints to the Missouri State Patrol with the results of the search subsequently mailed to the requester.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office allows members of the public to search for and obtain copies of police reports generated by its officers. These reports include incident records, accident records, and arrest records. To make a request for any of these police reports, provide the required information using the Record Application Form. The Cass County Sheriff's Office charges $5 for each police report, provided the requesting party is not a victim of the incident. Victims get copies of police reports free of charge.
The Missouri Automated Criminal History Site also provides a freely accessible Sex Offender Registry which features information on registered sex offenders in all counties of the state. Navigate to the search/map offenders function of the page to view registered sex offenders in Cass County. Interested persons can send money to inmates' commissary accounts via the third-party vendor contracted by Cass County Jail for commissary purposes. To process a deposit, visit the jail lobby kiosk or simply download the Turnkey Corrections app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Subscribe via the app to fund an inmate’s account. The maximum amount that can be deposited is $150. Note that the vendor charges $8.50 for each transaction.
Court Records
The Cass County Circuit Court is the highest trial court in the county. The clerk of court maintains records of civil cases, criminal cases, probate cases, domestic cases, and juvenile cases within the court’s jurisdiction. The municipal courts, which are divisions of the circuit court, were created to tackle violations of traffic and city ordinances occurring within the corporate limits of the cities. Interested persons can access Cass County circuit court records by submitting their requests at the clerk’s office located in Harrisonville. The clerks of the municipal courts also maintain dockets and records of cases handled within their respective jurisdictions. Note that search/copy fees may be required when requesting Cass County court records.

Vital Records
In Cass County, divorce records include divorce decrees and divorce statements. Divorce statements dating from 1948 to the present are available from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services located in Jefferson City. This department issues certified copies of divorce statements to authorized applicants, after they have provided their state-issued IDs. Applicants will need to complete the divorce section of the Application for Vital Records form. Each Cass County divorce statement costs $15. The county health department accepts cash, check, and money orders for payment.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services maintains certified copies of marriage statements. It allows members of the public to directly order these statements from their office or indirectly through the county department of health. To request for a statement of marriage granted in Cass County, print and complete the marriage section of the Application for a Vital Record form. Bring this form, required documents, and fees to the records desk of the Cass County Health Department. The fee for each certified copy of the marriage statement is $15. Note that the mail-in requests for Cass County marriage statements are only allowed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Both the Office of Vital Records of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and Cass County Health Department accept in-person and mail requests for copies of birth and death certificates. Make sure to include a check or money order for the appropriate fees. The Cass County Department of Health charges $15 for each birth certificate and $13 for the first copy of a death certificate. Each additional copy of a death certificate requested at the same time costs $10. Walk-in visitors can also bring cash along with required documents and completed application forms to the office address.
Note that birth and death records available at this office dates back to 1920 and 1980 respectively. Older genealogical records can only be obtained from the Missouri Department of Health.
