An inquirer can make requests for name or fingerprint searches online through the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS) or by mail.

To make requests by mail, the inquirer is expected to complete a "Request for Criminal Record Check Form” which may be obtained from The Missouri State Highway Patrol, CJIS Division.

Where Can I Find Cape Girardeau County Sex Offender Information?

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is required by state law to maintain a database of all registered Sex offenders in the state. The department is also required by law to make this information available on a public website to ease access for the citizens of the state.

According to the law of the state, convicted sex offenders must register in person with the police of the county within three days of conviction or release. This registration is done annually, and offenders must give their names, date of birth, national insurance number and home address.

Inmates of the county jail can be contacted through phone calls, on-site visitations, mails, e-mails, and video visitation.

Telephone calls

Inmates are allowed to receive and make telephone calls at specific hours of the day. Telephone messages, however, are not allowed in the county jail.

On-site visits

On-site visits are allowed only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. These visits are limited to 15 minutes and have to be scheduled 24 hours in advance.

Visitors must note the following rules at all times, irrespective of the type of visit;

  • There are no age restrictions for visitors, however, visitors under 18 years must be accompanied by an older authorized visitor.
  • All adult visitors will need to provide a photo id like Driver’s license, state, school, or Military ID cards.
  • Visitors should be on time as there will be no extra time if visit commences late.
  • If a visitor indulges in any activity deemed inappropriate by staff, the visit may be discontinued or future visits disallowed.
  • The following could be seen as inappropriate; wearing revealing outfits or taking photos and recording with electronic devices.

Sometimes, inmates are allowed to receive property from family.: Female inmates are allowed 3 pairs of white socks, brief underwear, and white bras without underwire. However, Male inmates are not allowed any clothing items brought into the jail.

Video Visitation at Cape Girardeau County Jail

Inmates are allowed to visit with friends and family from a video visitation terminal in their housing unit. Visitors will visit from a similar setting in the lobby of the sheriff's office. These types of visits are called onsite or public visitations. Inmates are allowed one 15 minute video visit from friends and family members weekly

How To Schedule Video Visits To The Cape Girardeau County Jail.

All visits to the county jail have to be scheduled at least 24 hours prior. These visits can be scheduled via the website or a video terminal in the public visitation area.

Inmate Mail Privileges.

All mails and postcards must be;

  • White postcards with no photographs or index cards

  • Postcards must not be larger than 5” x 7”

  • The stamps on the postcards will have their stamps removed before delivery to the inmate.

  • All postcards must have a clear and readable return address

  • Inmates may receive as many postcards as possible, however, they are limited to 10 in a cell at one time.

  • Postcards with the following characteristics will be deemed unacceptable and returned to the sender;

  • Altered or defaced postcards

  • Postcards with watermark stains

  • Labels and stickers

  • Postcards with plastic wrappings

  • Postcards with biohazards like lipstick and perfumes for example

  • Postcards depicting nudity, or with weapon and gang references

For outgoing mail, Inmates are allowed to send out letters or postcards in the mail with no limit to how many can be sent. The inmates may purchase stamped envelopes, paper and pens from the facility leaving the Facility.

Email Programme

The Cape Girardeau County Jail now operates an Email program for inmates, although, this program only allows incoming emails, not outgoing ones. Everyone sending emails to the county jail must be aware that emails are to be limited to 500 words and nothing more.

What are Cape Girardeau County Vital Records?

Cape Girardeau county vital records are records containing information regarding vital events that have occurred within county boundaries. These include records of births, adoptions, deaths, marriages, and divorces.

The Local registrar of all births and deaths in Cape Girardeau county is The Health Center. The center maintains records of births from 1920 and deaths after 1980. Records Of other years of birth or death can be obtained from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Website in Jefferson City, Missouri. Statewide registration of births and deaths started in 1910, general compliance for births by 1927, and deaths by 1911.

Divorce records are available at the office of the Circuit Clerk in the county where the divorce was granted. The Bureau of Vital Records in Jefferson City, however, maintains Certified Statements Relating to Marriage or Divorce.

Since 1949, the Department of Health and Senior Services has been the registrar of divorces and annulments. The county court that issued the decree is responsible for making sure the department gets records of it.
