The CJIS provides two forms of criminal records, namely name-based search and fingerprint search. A name-based search can be requested online or by mail. Name-based search costs $14, with a small convenience fee. Payment can be made with credit cards. Fingerprint checks can be carried out through the MACHS Fingerprint Search Portal. This search portal allows a requester to schedule a fingerprint appointment. The fingerprinting appointment costs $8.50 and the background check costs $20, making a total of $28.50. For authorized entities interested in carrying out a federal background check, this will require an additional fee of $13.25. Fingerprint search takes a processing time of 7 to 10 business days. The results of the check will be mailed to the requester.
